U.S. targets financial abuse of elderly

Americans over 60 lost at least $2.9 billion in 2010 to financial exploitation, a MetLife study. This 12% rise over two years is leading the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to begin looking into the types of scams affecting older consumers, states the LA Times. Attention Veterans – Stationed in Thailand between 1961 thru 1975.

Vietnam-era Veterans whose service involved duty on or near the perimeters of military bases in Thailand anytime between February 28, 1961 and May 7, 1975 may have been exposed to herbicides and may qualify for VA benefits. If a veteran is receiving Medicaid but is not residing in a nursing home, will the veteran’s benefit be $90?

No.  The personal allowance reduction is only for single claimants receiving Medicaid, in the nursing home.  The Medicaid Waiver program, i.e. residing at home or at an assisted living facility, are not part of this automatic reduction.
