How to qualify for aid and attendance

We see a number of cases, where a financial planner (scammer) sells an annuity to an 80 year old plus veteran with a 20 – year surrender penalty. Consequently, if the veteran has to be placed in a nursing home, the veteran will not qualify for medicaid, causing huge financial repercussions.

aid-and-attendance benefit pays a maximum of $1,949 a month to qualified married veterans.

Companies, such as Senior Life Care Planning helps families receive the aid and attendance – veterans benefit.

Aid and Attendance is an underused Veteran’s benefit.

“This can be really important not only for older Americans, but also for their kids if they’re trying to deal with mom and dad and how they’re going to pay” for assisted-living and other long-term-care services.

Is the Surviving Spouse’s education expenses deductible?

Expenses paid by a veteran or surviving spouse for his/her own education are deductable under the following criteria.  However, these cannot be reimbursed by any other source.     § 3.272   Exclusions from income.   (i) Educational expenses. What documentation should you submit to the VA for family daily services?

You should have a contract between the family member and the veteran – a personal caregivers agreement, submit this with the VA application. How do veterans qualify to get medical care at a VA hospital?

A veteran wants must complete and submit form 10-10EZ, with a copy of the military discharge papers to the local VA hospital admissions department.  Subsequently, they will set an appointment.    If the veteran is receiving NSC pension plus A & A or housebound benefits, the veteran receives meds, medical equipment, incontinence supplies, glasses, hearing aids, etc. free without going to the hospital. Does the veteran need a divorce or is a legal separation sufficient to obtain veterans benefits?

What would be the benefit amount a widow would receive from Aid and Attendance?

A widow receives a VA survival disability check and has other limited income. The widow is residing at an ALF.  In the case of a surviving spouse's DIC claim, medical expenses are not relevant at all.
