Local Business and Nonprofit to Hold Benefit for Frederick County Meals on Wheels

A Life Well Lived Legacy Planners, in partnership with Friends of Meals on Wheels of Frederick County, will be hosting “A Celebration of Life” on November 8th, 2014, at 8pm, at William Talley Recreation Center in Frederick, MD, to benefit The Frederick County Department of Aging’s Meals on Wheels progra. The Elder Law Office of Dvid Wingate is a sponsor of this event, aswell.

Maryland has a growing senior population with over 144,000 seniors struggling with hunger.  Meals on Wheels provides two meals a day, five days a week, to aging individuals within the program to address hunger in the aging population and allows seniors to receive a visitor in their home once a day—providing not just nourishment but companionship.  This extends the time most can stay living in their homes.

Currently, it costs Frederick County’s Meals on Wheels program $2,400 a year to provide meals to one individual.  This event will seek to raise funds to alleviate the strain on The Frederick County Department of Aging’s Meals on Wheels program by providing additional funds.  The groups seek to raise enough money to feed 50 more recipients in the next year.

“We are so pleased that A Life Well Lived is organizing and hosting A Celebration of Life,” said Gail Wingate, President of Friends of Meals on Wheels of Frederick County, “It highlights the Department of Aging Meals on Wheels program, the many wonderful volunteers, and clients that are served. The funds raised will push Friends of Meals on Wheels ever closer to ensuring that no senior in Frederick County goes hungry.”

The event is being sponsored by Elder Services Provider Council of Frederick, MD, whose mission is to be an advocate and educate older adults about all issues pertaining to growing older and provide them with trustworthy resources.  Gina Posey spokesperson for ESPC said “The ESPC is honored to be a part of this new event in Frederick to benefit the Meals on Wheels Program of Frederick County.  The event and hopeful outcome is directly in line with our mission as an organization.  Even better, that 100% of the proceeds will go to feeding these families struggling with hunger.”

The evening will highlight the lives of individuals and families being served by Meals on Wheels and how the program has affected their lives.  It will also showcase the experiences of the volunteers who provide meals and service to the individuals in the program.  Guests will be able to taste great local food, a cash bar will be available and all can dance to one of Maryland’s premier dance bands, Bittersweet.  A live auction will be held as well as a silent auction, online auction and raffle.  100% of the proceeds from the event will benefit Frederick County’s Meals on Wheels program.

“We want ‘A Celebration of Life’ to bring awareness that the lives of those receiving meals from this program and the lives of those who serve are worth celebrating,” said Susan McGinnis and Denise Ordonio, Founders of A Life Well Lived Legacy Planners, “Meals on Wheels has touched the lives of so many and we are excited to share their stories.”
