Fourteen Insurers Apply to Manage Care of State’s Elderly and Disabled Population

Fourteen health insurers submitted proposals this week to Pennsylvania officials to coordinate managed care in a new program covering medical and long-term care services for older and disabled adults. Seven Pennsylvania-based firms and seven from outside the state in responding to a request for proposals that were due Monday to participate in the Community HealthChoices program. Decisions on which insurers will be chosen could come by the end of June, with several insurers to be selected to compete with one another in each of five regions of the state.

The Wolf administration, through a joint letter from its secretaries of human services and aging, said the number of submissions from prospective managed care organizations showed “high interest and desire” in the program, which will alter coordination and delivery of services to more than 400,000 Pennsylvanians who will be covered.
